UC men fall at Alderson-Broadd

Jamar Board and Carl Buck each scored 26 points as Alderson- Broaddus took a 98-88 win over the University of Charleston in a West Virginia Conference men's game on Thursday in Phillippi.

The Golden Eagles (15-8, 13-5) were dominated on the boards as the Battlers held a 40-22 rebounding advantage.

Terrell Eargle chipped in with 16 points and 13 boards for AB (18- 5, 14-4) and Mark Summerfield added 11 points.

Bahaadar Russell paced Charleston with 22 points followed by Jonathan Liggins with 18, James Eversley with 12, and John White with 10.

UC will play at Bluefield State at 7:30 on Saturday.

* STATE 84, D&E 71: All five starters for West Virginia State scored in double-figures as the Yellow Jackets rallied from a 3- point halftime deficit and rolled at Davis & Elkins.

Darren Jones led all scorers with 26 points for State (21-3, 17- 2) followed by Fred Harris with 16 points and 11 rebounds, Will Collins with 15 points, Josh "Cookie" Miller with 14 points and Bo King with 12. Jones hit 6-of-12 from 3-point range for the Jackets.

Reggie Cook scored 25 points for Senators (12-10, 10-8) who had a 34-31 lead going into the break. Tim Turner scored 17 points for D&E and P.J. Turner scored 16 points and handed out 14 assists.

West Virginia State plays at 6 p.m. on Saturday at Concord.

WVC, Techwomen

* UC 72, A-B 45:Lindsey Kentner went 8-of-12 from the field, including three 3-point goals, and finished with 19 points as Charleston rolled at Alderson-Broaddus.

"We started off really strong in the first half, especially the first 10 minutes," said UCcoach Sherry Winn. "I think that we got AB in a hole and they could never dig themselves out."

The Golden Eagles shot 50.8 percent for the game while holding the Battlers (7-16 overall, 5-13 West Virginia Conference) to just 29.8 percent shooting, including 23.3 percent in the second half. Tarenna Dixon added 14 points and seven rebounds for UC (16-7, 13- 5) and Moneka Slaughter scored 10 points off the bench.

"We talked more on defense tonight and people listened," said Winn, "which helped us get off-ball screens and defend better."

Amanda Peoples was the lone double-digit scorer for A-B with 11 points.

* STATE 78, D&E 73: West Virginia State got 36 points from Alixandria Barnette as the Yellow Jackets picked up a win at Davis & Elkins.

Tonesha Members and Melissa Ford contributed a dozen points apiece for the Yellow Jackets (16-9, 12-8).

Julieanne Buckley recorded 20 points and rolexreplica nine rebounds for D&E (13-11, 9-10). Shalisa Hill pitched in with 19 points and Teonna Jewell ended up with 17.

* CUMBERLANDS 73, TECH 51: Poor shooting and a thin bench plagued WVU Tech in a loss to Cumberlands at the Neil D. Baisi Center in Montgomery.

The Golden Bears (10-16, 1-10) hit just 14-of-57 shots from the floor (24.6 percent), including just 6-for-29 in the second half and 1-for-13 from 3-point range. Tech, which trailed 38-26 at the break, got just two points off the bench and the subs were 0-for-14 from the floor.
